How fast the window turns over

The one measurement here that a reader cannot reconstruct after the fact, and what it costs to read weekly instead of daily.

Of 469 items across 30 daily reads: the median was findable for 5 days, 143 for three days or fewer, and 66 on exactly one day.

What this archive is, exactly. Once a day we run seven fixed public queries and seal what each one returned. Every one of them is recency-ranked and capped — the forum search hands back 50 items per read, the news feeds returned 5–16, the docket searches 1–16. So this is a record of what those queries showed on each date, not a catalogue of incidents. An item missing from our newest seal was pushed out of a ranking by newer items; it was not deleted by anyone, and we make no claim that it is gone from its source.

What a weekly reader misses

Take our own seals and keep only every seventh one — that is a reader who runs the identical seven searches on one fixed weekday. Then count the items that appear on none of their reads. There are seven possible start days; only the 2 that get 5 reads are comparable to each other, and the remaining one is shown but excluded from the range for exactly that reason.

The range: 125–126 items (26.7–26.9%) never appear at all for a weekly reader. This is a property of our archive and the queries in it. It is not a forecast, and a longer archive or a different query set would move it.

Why the court dockets do not move. The four docket searches return a small, slowly-growing result set, so nothing is pushed out of them: every docket we have ever sealed is still in the newest read. The forum search is capped at 50 items and turns over fastest. Same collector, same day, opposite behaviour — which is why one blended rotation figure is not published anywhere on this surface.
